dreamstime 9385560b 300Although it may surprise many Christians, it is true.

G-d does not love everyone.

There are some He hates.

I can hear the arguments already:

What about "For G-d so loved the world"!? (John 3:16)

And what about "G-d doesn't wish for any to perish"!? (2 Peter 3:9)

Those are true. So are these other passages of Scripture:

The oracle of the word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi. "I have loved you," says the LORD. But you say, "How have You loved us?" "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" declares the LORD. "Yet I have loved Jacob; but I have hated Esau, and I have made his mountains a desolation and appointed his inheritance for the jackals of the wilderness." (Malachi 1:1-3)

What about this one:

The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates. (Psalm 11:5)

Here are a few more:

"For forty years I loathed that generation [the generation of Israelites that wandered in the wilderness], And said they are a people who err in their heart, And they do not know My ways.  Therefore I swore in My anger, Truly they shall not enter into My rest." (Psalm 95:10)

And in Proverbs... the wisdom of G-d revealed through Solomon:

There are six things which the LORD hates, Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that run rapidly to evil,
A false witness who utters lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers. (Proverbs 6:16-22)

My son, observe the commandment of your father And do not forsake the teaching of your mother; Bind them continually on your heart; Tie them around your neck. When you walk about, they will guide you; When you sleep, they will watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.

Yes, even into the book of Revelation, we find G-d's fierce anger against those whom He hates.

Then another angel, a third one, followed them, saying with a loud voice, "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is mixed in full strength in the cup of His anger; and he will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. (Revelation 14:9-10)

Apparently there are some He loves and some He hates.

Who Does G-d Love?

There are only a handful of verses that explicitly declare who G-d loves:

Nevertheless, the LORD your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the LORD your God loves you. (Deuteronomy 23:5)

G-d loves Israel, his bride.

For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other men in your place and other peoples in exchange for your life. (Isaiah 43:3-4)

Messiah loves "the church" (Greek: ekklesia)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. (Ephesians 5:25-26)
