Leviticus 16:1

The Hebrew Words
There are two words that make up the name of this week's Torah portion:
First use in Scripture
Acharei (Strong's #310) properly means "the hind part" or "after". It is used 636 times in 599 verses in the Tanakh.
The first place acharei is found in Scripture is in Genesis 5:4.
Genesis 5:4
Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.
Mot (Strong's #4194) means "death" and is used 164 times in 159 verses in the Tanakh.
The first instance of this word is in Genesis 21:16 when Avraham sent Hagar and Yishma'el away.

The first time acharei mot is used as a phrase in Scripture is in Genesis 25:11.

The last time acharei mot is used as a phrase in Scripture is in Psalm 49:17.
