| 1 | Solomon establishes his kingdom. Solomon seeks and receives wisdom from G-d. Israel grows wealthy under Solomon's reign. |
| 2 | Solomon plans to build a temple for G-d and requests assistance from Huram (Hiram) king of Tyre. Solomon assigns laborers to build the temple and prepare the grain, wine, and oil. |
| 3 | Solomon begins building the Temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. The Temple is described: its materials, size, and layout. |
| 4 | Solomon makes a new bronze altar, a new giant bronze laver, ten golden lampstands, ten golden tables of show bread, and other utensils for use in the Temple. |
| 5 | Solomon completes the Temple. Solomon assembles the elders and heads of Israel for the fall feast. The Levites bring the ark of the covenant into the Temple and many sacrifices are made. The glory of the LORD filled the house of G-d. |
| 6 | Solomon blesses Israel. Solomon delivers his dedication prayer for the Temple. Solomon asks G-d for mercy and compassion when Israel sins. |
| 7 | Fire from heaven consumes the offerings in the Temple. Israel worships G-d. Israel celebrates Sukkot plus a seven-day feast for the dedication. The LORD appears to Solomon at night and instructs him to obey His commandments. |
| 8 | Solomon builds cities, captures other cities, and makes the Canaanites forced laborers. Solomon appoints chief officers in his kingdom. Solomon builds a house for his Egyptian wife. Solomon offers daily, weekly, monthly, and annual burnt offerings according to the rule of G-d's Law. |
| 9 | The Queen of Sheba visits and questions Solomon and discovers his wisdom. Solomon becomes greater than all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. Solomon reigns for forty years and dies. |
| 10 | The people of Israel seek to ease their labors under the new king. Rehoboam rejects the counsel of the elders speaks harshly to the people of Israel. Israel rejects Rehoboam as king and crown Jeroboam as their king. Rehoboam flees to Jerusalem and remains as king of Judah only. |
| 11 | Rehoboam plans to make war against Israel to restore them to his kingdom but G-d instructs him to stop. Rehoboam builds cities of defense for Judah. Rehoboam takes eighteen wives and has many children. |
| 12 | Rehoboam and all Israel become strong and forsake the Law of the LORD. Egypt attacks Judah and Shemaiah reveals Judah's infidelity to G-d. The king and leaders of Judah humble themselves before G-d. G-d leaves Judah in bondage to Egypt to learn the difference between His rule and the rule of the kingdoms of the world. There are wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually. Rehoboam reigns in Jerusalem for seventeen years and then dies. |
| 13 | Abijah becomes king of Judah and speaks with Jeroboam. Jeroboam sets an ambush for Abijah but G-d routes Jeroboam and his warriors. Jereboam has many wives and children. |
| 14 | Abijah dies and Asa becomes king of Judah after him. Asa did good and right in the sight of the LORD. Judah has peace and is strengthened. Ethiopia attacks Judah and the LORD routes the Ethiopians. Judah plunders the cities around Gerar. |
| 15 | G-d speaks to Asa through the prophet Azariah. Asa takes courage and removes false worship from Judah. Some from Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon defect from Israel to Judah because the LORD is with Judah. Asa sacrifices and makes a covenant to seek the LORD G-d of their fathers. Asa removes Queen Maachah and destroys the Asherah she had created. |
| 16 | Baasha, king of Israel, attacks Judah. Asa makes a treaty with Aram who aids him in battle against Israel. Hanani the seer rebukes king Asa for relying upon the Arameans instead of relying on G-d. Asa becomes angry, imprisons Hanani, and oppresses some of the people. Asa becomes diseased and seeks physicians instead of G-d. Asa reigns for forty-one years and dies. |
| 17 | Jehoshaphat becomes king of Judah and follows the LORD. The LORD establishes Jehoshaphat's kingdom and he has great riches and honor. Jehoshaphat takes great pride in the ways of the LORD and sends officials to teach G-d's Law in Judah. Judah has peace with other countries and grows strong. |
| 18 | King Ahab of Israel has peace with Jehoshaphat and Judah. Ahab seeks Jehoshaphat's help to fight against Aram. Ahab's prophets speak of success in battle but Jehoshaphat seeks a prophet of the LORD for guidance. The prophet Micaiah prophesies that Israel will be defeated and Ahab will die. Ahab and Jehoshaphat go to war anyway Ahab disguises himself but dies in battle, mortally wounded by a random arrow. |
| 19 | Jehu, the son of Hanani the seer, warns Jehoshaphat about helping the wicked and bringing wrath on himself from the LORD. Jehoshaphat brings Judah back to the LORD. Jehoshaphat appoints and instructs judges throughout the land. The Levites are officers of the courts. |
| 20 | Moab and Ammon attack Judah. Judah gathers to seek help from the LORD and He commands them to stand and watch. Judah sings and praises G-d while He defeats Moab and Ammon. Judah has peace with the nations around them because of the dread of the LORD. Jehoshaphat reigns twenty-five years and dies. |
| 21 | Jehoram becomes king of Judah then kills his brothers and some of the rulers as well. Jehoram disobeys G-d and walks in the ways of the kings of Israel (for he had married Ahab's daughter). Edom revolts against Judah. Jehoram receives a letter from Elijah the prophet who warns him of G-d's judgment against him. The Philistines and the Arabs war against Judah and kill all of Jehoram's family except his son Jehoahaz. The LORD smites Jehoram with an incurable sickness in his bowels. Jehoram reigns for eight years and dies. |
| 22 | Ahaziah (Jehoahaz) reigns in Judah and does not follow G-d. He joins Jehoram king of Israel in a war against the Arameans. Jehu, the son of Hanani the seer, executes judgment on the house of Ahab and kills Ahaziah as well. Ahaziah's mother, Athaliah, kills all of Ahaziah's heirs but Joash is saved. Athaliah reigns. |
| 23 | Jehoiada the priest gathers the leaders of Judah to proclaim and anoint Joash as king. Athaliah claims they are committing treason against her but she is killed. The people of Judah tear down the house of Baal and its altars and seek after the LORD. Judah has peace. |
| 24 | Joash becomes king at age seven and does what is right in the sight of the LORD. Joash takes two wives and has a family. He repairs the Temple. Jehoiada the priest lives one hundred and thirty years and dies. Joash heeds the officials of Judah and abandon's G-d. The people stone Zechariah the prophet, the son of Jehoiada, after he condemns their forsaking G-d. The Arameans attack Judah and the LORD delivers Judah's great army into the hands of the small Aramean force because they had forsaken Him. Joash's servants conspire to murder him because he had killed Zechariah. |
| 25 | Amaziah reigns in Judah and follows G-d but not with a whole heart. Amaziah and Judah go to battle Seir and the Ephraimites raid their cities while they are gone. Amaziah sets up the gods of Seir as his own, bows before them, and is condemned by a prophet. Amaziah wars against Israel but is defeated and captured. Amaziah reigns for fifteen years and dies. |
| 26 | Uzziah reigns in Judah and follows G-d. G-d prospered Uzziah and strengthened Judah. Judah defeats the Philistines, the Arabians, and the Meunites. As Uzziah becomes strong, he becomes proud, and enters the Temple to burn incense. The LORD smites Uzziah with leprosy on his forehead. Uzziah remains a leper for the rest of his life and then dies. |
| 27 | Jotham reigns in Judah and does what is right in the sight of the LORD. Jotham builds up cities in Judah but the people act corruptly. Judah battles Ammon and defeats them. Jotham becomes mighty because he followed G-d's commandments, reigns sixteen years, then dies. |
| 28 | Ahaz reigns in Judah and does not do what is right in the sight of the LORD by worshiping the Baals. Ahaz is defeated by Aram and Israel. Ephraim is warned by a prophet not to bring the captives of Judah into their cities. Ahaz seeks help from Assyria to defend himself against the Philistines but the Assyrians attack him instead. Ahaz closes G-d's Temple and provokes G-d to anger. Ahaz dies but is not buried in the tombs of the kings. |
| 29 | Hezekiah reigns in Judah and does what is right is the sight of the LORD. Hezekiah reopens and repairs the Temple, consecrates the priests, and restores worship. Hezekiah sacrifices before the LORD and has a special worship service with the Levites singing praises to G-d. |
| 30 | Hezekiah invites all of Judah and Israel to come to the house of the LORD for Passover. Many mock Hezekiah's messengers but others come, are purified, confess, sacrifice, and worship at Passover. |
| 31 | The Israelites who attended Passover destroy the pillars, Asherim, and false altars in the land. Hezekiah appoints divisions of priests and Levites for the Temple service. Hezekiah orders that Israel should provide the portion due to the priests and Levites. Great heaps of grain, wine, oil, honey, and produce are provided. Every work Hezekiah began for G-d he did with all his heart and he prospered. |
| 32 | Sennacherib of Assyria invades Judah. Hezekiah fortifies the cities and prays to G-d. The LORD sends an angel who destroys Sennacherib's army. Hezekiah becomes proud, get sick, humbles himself, then later dies. |
| 33 | Manasseh reigns in Judah and does evil in the sight of the LORD. G-d brings Assyria against Judah and Manasseh is captured. In his distress, Manasseh seeks the LORD and humbles himself greatly Manasseh dies. Amon becomes king of Judah and did evil in the sight of the LORD just like Manasseh his father had. Amon does not humble himself before the LORD. His servants conspired against him and put him to death. |
| 34 | Josiah reigns in Judah and does what is right in the sight of the LORD. Josiah repairs the Temple and the book of Moses is found during the repairs. Josiah and the people renew their covenant to follow the LORD. |
| 35 | Josiah and Judah along with Israel celebrate Passover in Jerusalem. King Neco of Egypt goes to war with Carchemish and Josiah intercepts him. Neco warns Josiah that he is not at war against Judah but Josiah does not listen. Archers wound Josiah and he returns to Jerusalem where he dies. The prophet Jeremiah chants a lament for Josiah and the people mourn. |
| 36 | Joahaz becomes king of Judah and reigns three months. Jehoiakim becomes king of Judah and does evil in the sight of G-d. Nebuchadnezzar takes Jehoiakim captive and sets Jehoiachin as king. Jehoiachin reigns three months and does evil. Nebuchadnezzar makes Zedekiah king over Judah and he does evil as well. Babylon destroys Jerusalem and the Temple, and carries the inhabitants of Judah away as captives. |
