Consider This…

13 September 2008

Here are some passages from Scripture to consider in regards to Torah. I will update this blog entry from time to time with other passages as I find them:

"I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My Torot [plural of Torah]." - Genesis 26:4-5

Bind up the testimony, seal the Torah among my disciples. - Isaiah 8:16

"The same Torah shall apply to the native as to the stranger who sojourns among you." - Exodus 12:49

"For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as is the LORD our God whenever we call on Him? Or what great nation is there that has statutes and judgments as righteous as this whole Torah which I am setting before you today?" - Deuteronomy 4:7-8

"Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this Torah on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It shall be with him and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, by carefully observing all the words of this Torah and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left, so that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel. - Deuteronomy 17:18

"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this Torah. - Deuteronomy 29:29

"Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers; if you obey the LORD your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the Torah, if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and soul." - Deuteronomy 30:10

"They shall teach Your ordinances to Jacob, And Your Torah to Israel. They shall put incense before You, And whole burnt offerings on Your altar." - Deuteronomy 33:10

"This book of the Torah shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success." - Joshua 1:8

"Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the Torah which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and hold fast to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul." - Joshua 22:5

"Be very firm, then, to keep and do all that is written in the book of the Torah of Moses, so that you may not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left, so that you will not associate with these nations, these which remain among you, or mention the name of their gods, or make anyone swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them. - Joshua 23:6-7 Yet the LORD warned Israel and Judah through all His prophets and every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways and keep My commandments, My statutes according to all the Torah which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets." - 2 Kings 17:13

"Now therefore, O LORD, the God of Israel, keep with Your servant David, my father, that which You have promised him, saying, 'You shall not lack a man to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your sons take heed to their way, to walk in My Torah as you have walked before Me.' - 2 Chronicles 6:16

For many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without Torah. - 2 Chronicles 15:3

For on the first of the first month he [Ezra] began to go up from Babylon; and on the first of the fifth month he came to Jerusalem, because the good hand of his God was upon him. For Ezra had set his heart to study the Torah of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel. - Ezra 7:9-10

But as soon as they had rest, they did evil again before You; Therefore You abandoned them to the hand of their enemies, so that they ruled over them. When they cried again to You, You heard from heaven, And many times You rescued them according to Your compassion, And admonished them in order to turn them back to Your Torah. Yet they acted arrogantly and did not listen to Your commandments but sinned against Your ordinances, By which if a man observes them he shall live. And they turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck, and would not listen. - Nehemiah 9:28-29

However, You are just in all that has come upon us; For You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly. For our kings, our leaders, our priests and our fathers have not kept Your Torah or paid attention to Your commandments and Your admonitions with which You have admonished them. - Nehemiah 9:33-34

Yield now and be at peace with Him; Thereby good will come to you. Please receive Torah from His mouth And establish His words in your heart. If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored; If you remove unrighteousness far from your tent... - Job 22:21-23

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the Torah of the LORD, And in His Torah he meditates day and night. - Psalm 1:1-2

The Torah of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. - Psalm 19:7

Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Torah is within my heart." - Psalm 40:7-8

For He established a testimony in Jacob And appointed a Torah in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers

That they should teach them to their children, that the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, That they may arise and tell them to their children, That they should put their confidence in God And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments, And not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not prepare its heart And whose spirit was not faithful to God. The sons of Ephraim were archers equipped with bows, Yet they turned back in the day of battle. They did not keep the covenant of God And refused to walk in His Torah; They forgot His deeds And His miracles that He had shown them. - Psalm 78:5-11

If his sons forsake My Torah And do not walk in My judgments, If they violate My statutes And do not keep My commandments, Then I will punish their transgression with the rod And their iniquity with stripes. - Psalm 89:30-32

Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, And whom You teach out of Your Torah; - Psalm 94:12

Regarding food:

"Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, Following one in the center, Who eat swine's flesh, detestable things and mice, Will come to an end altogether," declares the LORD. - Isaiah 66:17
