Image of G-d

23 November 2008

Genesis 1:27 tells us that G-d made man in His image:

G-d created man in His own image, in the image of G-d He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 9:6 reiterates this:

Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of G-d He made man.

Who or what, then, is this "image"?

It is Messiah for it is written in 2 Corinthians 4:4

...in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of G-d.

So we can safely say that when G-d created Adam that Adam was created in Messiah.  This makes sense when we see that the redeemed are now "in Christ" as Paul puts it in Romans 8:1.

Humanity was once "in Christ", fell, and has been restored (by Christ) to be "in Christ" once again.
