WFT- incandescent

26 May 2008

The Merriam-Webster word of the day for Saturday, May 17th was "incandescent" a noun which M-W defined as such:

  • a : white, glowing, or luminous with intense heat  b : marked by brilliance  especially of expression  c : characterized by glowing zeal : ardent
  • a  : of, relating to, or being light produced by incandescence b : producing light  by incandescence

Since this was sent on Shabbat it reminded me of the zeal which we should have in honoring and guarding Shabbat.  It reminded me of Deuteronomy 4:24:

For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

and also of Acts 21:20

And when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law;

So, too, may we glow with the passion and zeal for Torah and for Shabbat that God has placed within us and in so doing may we be a light unto all the nations.
